Norwegian status on implementation of Short Selling Regulation (No 236/2012)

Published: 5 November 2012 Last updated: 27 November 2018

The Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on short selling and certain aspects of credit default swaps (EU) No 236/2012 (Regulation) became applicable in EU countries from 1 November 2012. In light of this, The Financial Supervisory Authority of Norway would like to emphasize that Norway, which is not a member of the European Union, has not yet implemented the Short selling regulation.

While there is ongoing work to implement the regulation under the EEA agreement, currently no official date for enforcement exists. Until then, existing Norwegian law regarding short sale apply.
