Morten Baltzersen takes up duties as Director General of Finanstilsynet on Monday 15 August.
Morten Baltzersen (50) holds a higher degree in Economics from the University of Oslo and has long experience with the Ministry of Finance where he has worked in a number of areas. Since 2002 he has been Director General in the Budget Department of that Ministry. He has also held positions with Norges Bank and the Mission of Norway to the European Union.
Mr Baltzersen's appointment to the post of Director General, Finanstilsynet, is for a term of six years.
"I look forward to heading an organisation with an important mission in society and highly competent staff," says Mr Baltzersen.
He cites Finanstilsynet's objective of promoting financial stability and well functioning financial markets, which are crucial for a well functioning economy and important for the individual user of financial services.
"Finanstilsynet has demanding tasks, one reason being that the Norwegian financial market is affected by international financial markets", says Morten Baltzersen.
He emphasises that a strong Norwegian economy, with sound government finances and a solid financial industry, puts us in a good position to tackle the challenges posed by the current financial turbulence.
