Kredittilsynet changes name to Finanstilsynet and relocates to the centre of Oslo

On Monday 21 December Kredittilsynet (Norway’s Financial Supervisory Authority) is to change its name to Finanstilsynet. It will at the same time relocate to new premises at Revierstredet 3 in the centre of Oslo.

“Kredittilsynet was so named upon its establishment in 1986. In time the relevance of the name, in its Norwegian version, to the widening scope of the agency’s remit has diminished. The new name better reflects its comprehensive oversight of banking, insurance and the securities field and other areas,” says Director General Bjørn Skogstad Aamo.

The new name was approved by the Storting (parliament) in June this year. Mr Skogstad Aamo emphasises that the name change signals no change in the agency’s role, responsibilities or functions. Since the name change coincides with the relocation to new premises, it entails little in the way of extra cost.

Like Kredittilsynet’s previous visual profile, the profile created for the new name has its basis in Norway’s coat-of-arms.

Finanstilsynet is leasing premises at Revierstredet 3 from Norges Bank. This will not however bring any change in the relationship between Finanstilsynet and Norges Bank. Finanstilsynet will have a separate entrance and its own canteen. Movement between the two premises will be regulated. Finanstilsynet will remain independent, with its own board of directors. As previously, the two institutions will collaborate on reporting, monitoring of financial stability and preparedness to deal with any problems arising in the financial market.

“We look forward to moving to a central location and to modern premises offering a high level of security,” says Bjørn Skogstad Aamo.

Due to the relocation to new premises, Kredittilsynet will be closed from 1300hrs Friday 18 December 2009. Finanstilsynet will be in place in the new premises as from 0800hrs Monday 21 December 2009.
